Number 23

What were your favorite discoveries or exercises on this learning journey?
I have really enjoyed this overall. I loved tagging--what a great time saver and organizational tool. Of course, google....it can do so much and already has saved me in many ways! I also liked image generators and wiki!
How has this program assisted or affected your lifelong learning goals?
Yes, this program has helped me in my life-long journey to learn. Especially since I have successfully avoided technology for so long. I have had to learn how to do little things that have helped me make the big things possible.
Were there any take-a-ways or unexpected outcomes from this program that surprised you?
Photostory has been a treasure and something I know that I can use in my classroom. The google docs is great and I loved the library thing!
What could we do differently to improve upon this program’s format or concept?
There were times that I was stuck and didn't know where to go to fix it... like not knowing how to save a picture or find some things...so having a support group would have been helpful! I know I spent a whole lot more time than 18 hours....all the links in number 21 took about 3 hours alone~
If we offered another discovery program like this in the future, would you choose to participate? absolutely! I loved being self paced and work around my schedule! No babysitter required...or guilt feelings!
How would you describe your learning experience in ONE WORD or in ONE SENTENCE, so we could use your words to promote 23 Things learning activities? Stretch

Number 22

Ning et al
A great place for people with similar interests to share ideas and thoughts. I loved the lesson plans and the sharing of ideas. Ning is great to bring teachers together and may aid in committees or sharing info. This is kind of like an educational think tank!

number 21

Photostory

I really like this one! I have seen a lot of great things that I can directly use in my classroom! Although, working with prek-- this will be labor intensive. This is a keeper

I really had never heard of teacher tube before this 23 things. I have watched my nephew play around with you tube quite a bit and never really thought it was anything that I could use! I enjoyed seeing all that there was out there....lots and lots. Several of the videos were inspiring...photostory projects, alphabet books and learning about the smart board. I can see using the videos as an extention of lessons-- giving some extra experiences to my little ones. I liked the groups that you could join or use...it would be like tagging the videos. I can see me using some of these this year.

number19

Web 2.0
How convenient to have all of these sights all on one page...and the best of them! Really helps with the time factor. So many places to visit! I like the info about the books, maps, and the peer trainer (for me personally) and I really enjoyed the backpack! Too bad it costs...I think I would have really enjoyed it although I have discovered that google has something similar for free. In my classroom, this would be a resource for my planning, but not much for my little kiddos!

Number 18

Open office and Google Docs
Here we go again! Google docs is great! Although I don't really see much use for it at school except for sharing documents with my parents, I can really use this with my work I do at church! I always have to be at my computer to send an email with a document attached! This will save alot of frustration. Go, google, go!

thing numero 17

Rollyo
I love the idea, but I am not sure that it is a tool that is useful for me and my job-- teaching pre-k. I see it being helpful for learning to research on the web in a controlled way, which is very important-- there are so many places to go on the web. If I spent more time searching or researching I can see this being a great tool. I do feel like if I have one more user name and password I will burst! I have developed a notebook for all that info, but that has been my most frustrating part--keeping all the passwords, user names, and accounts in order!

Thing 16

All things Wiki!
I thought I knew about wiki, at least a little. I used it for facts when reading or other little things. Of course taking it all with a grain of salt. Then I started to explore and play with it. I like the concept way more that the blog. Of course I visited google groups and loved it! Wiki can be great in the classroom--for me as a tool for the parents rather than e-mail. I created a site--now I just need to tweak it and make it mine. Wiki is more than I really ever imagined!

number 15

Library 2.0
The amount of information was amazing! Not being a librarian I rarely think of the ramifications of changes in society and technology. Although first hand I have watched my sister, a librarian, morph into a new techie librarian! The changes over the last few years have been so fast! Wonderful to adapt to the new and keep up with the technology. Scary, is the amount and the reliability of the information. Kids these days think that all that they read and see on the computer is real and right. We must teach them to discern the right information. But how? The information is so changing so fast!

14th thing

Technorati
Again...too much information. I really don't spend alot of time searching on the computer and reading the info. So, I feel that the delicious info was better for me and my use of the computer. I did like searching in Technorati-- but often I was going off on rabbit trails following different links-- too much of a time waster. Tagging is great for me-- I am really hoping to use this at school and at home-- not just on my pictures!

Number 13

Social Bookmarking
I really like delicious and what it will do for my bookmark organization! Organization has been the theme of the summer-- why not my bookmarks too! I will just have to remember to use this...so many new tools and things. I see this as a wonderful tool to help with my web searches for new curriculum and ideas for the classroom. I will be able to classify everything and only visit the sights that I need! I love the idea of sharing bookmarks with my colleagues! We always talk about sites that we have found, but rarely to I visit them...this would help me tremendously. I am going to have to train my teachers to use this tool.

Thing 12

Comments and commenting!
I will have to say that normally I have no problem with comments and putting my two cents in....but in cyberspace, I am the reluctant commentor! I did have fun adding comments to some blogs....but in the back of my mind was...is that comment worthy? So, the two things that I picked out from the reading was don't be afraid to comment and be careful of the power of words. Much like e-mail, so many things can be misunderstood! The blog spots that I commented on were mainly personal blogs of friends that are on mission trips or are missionaries abroad. It got easier to comment as I went on!

Eleven Thingy

Library thing-- cool, but time consuming! Great for my sister the librarian- and for the avid reader that is always looking for a new book. If I had the time, I could catalog my own books, but it still wouldn't mean I could find them! I loved the groups--It was great looking at books that I enjoyed and finding others! I will add them to my summer reading list! Again, I see this much more useful for the upper grades-- I think it would be a great tool for the discussion groups, learning to write a review etc...I will visit it often just to see what is out there!

THING 10

This was fun! Lots of great ways to make fun things for the classroom and lessons! I liked the trading card maker-- it would be fun for getting to know the children at the beginning of the year. The comic strip one was fun, too, but I could see it being well used in the upper grades. I thought my kids would like the smiley face one...right on our level! Learning to read faces! Again, lots of fun!

number 9

TMI-- I am on overload! I do like the idea of how the information comes to you...it is just too much info for me! I love to read books that come recommended from people that I respect, know or relate to....I feel the same about these blogs. Although I love to learn new things and stretch I find this blog thing to be frustrating in these areas...I do not know the source or the reliability of the info. Bloglines was easy to use...Technorati was difficult for me. I did find some fun stuff to use at home...recipes, tips etc... You could spend hours and hours and hours doing this!

Number 8

RSS-- something I have never heard of...but what a cool idea. I love the idea that the reader will send info to you, but the overwhelming number and the quality of info is not great! I need to research more sites or maybe I just don't like that much information from resources that I don't read regularly! Personal life uses are great... helps me see what is new on the fun places I like to visit that I don't always have time for. School uses...this is where I am a little wary...and weary. Too much information and kids seeing teacher and parents constantly on the computer rather than reading a newspaper or book or magazine. Children (at a young age) equate computer time as play time with a weak programs that doesn't require much thinking much less reading. I will continue to tweak my reader to fit what I really want.

number 7

Google! I love it! I am an avid google calendar fan-- I don't know what I would do without it! I enjoyed playing around with google earth and the alerts as well. I really didn't know that google had so much to offer! Where do they come up with all this stuff that we can't live without! Now, there are some applications for the classroom-- but I would be pushing it to use a lot of this in my pre-k class, but it all would keep me well organized!

Number 6

Mashups, mosaics, and mappr
Totally new concept for me...but I liked it and saw so many ways to use them even in the pre-k classroom. I loved mosaic for a project study or a unit study for all the children to participate in. My question is time to gather, mash it up and get it out in a reasonable amount of time with these little guys!

Thing #5

WOW! I can't believe that I did this! I really like flickr-- there are many uses for the classroom and at home! I found lots of things that I could use for the classroom--so many pictures....so little time!

Thing 3

Always something new-- I have heard of blogs, but have never participated! I am overrun with passwords and different logins! This is causing me stress and makes it difficult to get through the things! I am sure it will get easier!

Thing one and two

Thing #1 and #2 The easiest thing for me is view problems as a challenge-- which in this Library to play will be exercised quite often!!!! I am challenged!

The hardest thing is to begin with the end in mind! I put fires out rather than having a plan! Maybe I should start with the 23rd thing???

Starting the new process....don't really know what I am doing but trying new things is always like this!
